Since my father and I have the same name, the computer registered it as a duplicate when checking in, and we had to have an ANA manager sort it out. It was a mess trying to check in, although there was no line in the counter. We arrived about 3 hours before departure. I figured that there was potential (how bad could it be?) and at worst at least we had a lie flat seat to get to Sydney. I was hesitant at first to book, given the limited reviews available. Going on Google Flights, I found that for about $200 more than the oneWorld ticket we were planning on booking, there was business class available on Air China. There were no award seats on JAL, and the available Cathay Pacific schedules did not give us enough time in Sydney. My family and I were in Tokyo, and we were looking for the cheapest way to get to Sydney. The Noteworthy: We were the only people in the cabin! First time ever this happens in Business Class! The Bad: No IFE, worthless WiFi, and no cellphones allowed. A cabin all to ourselves, lie flat seats and solid ANA Lounge in NRT. The cell phone ban on planes, which was still in effect during my trip, is a bummer, and no other IFE make the flight feel a lot longer than it was. The airline has well intentioned crews, but there is a serious language barrier. Air China is good enough airline to fly from Tokyo Narita to Beijing.
